==Overview:==
While very successful, the Lola class destroyers were deeply unpopular with
their crews due to their extremely cramped internal arrangements, and also the
lack of a grav deck, both designs flaw that would be repeated in the Lola 2,
and 3, classes, and meant that they were unsuitable for long patrols.
While the Typhoon was originally intended as a close range escort for the
Terran Hegemony's larger vessels, such as the Aegis and the Monsoon, some
bright spark on the design committee decided that the new destroyers should
also be able to perform long distance patrols, which meant that the designers
had to use mainly energy weapons instead of the heavy autocannon armament
originally envisaged.
Never a glamorous design, not even in it's heyday during the early 25th
century, the Typhoon never the less lasted in service till the end of the
Reunification War, largely due to being very popular with the crews that
served on them, and also due to the fact that it was more reliable in service
than some of it's intended replacements.
==Capabilities:==
Painfuly slow are the first words that would come to mind, as she was no
faster than the warships she was supposed to escort, which was not, at the
time at least, felt to be a real hinderance, but at least one engagement
during the Reunification War proved that in certain situations it could be.
A second flaw is the mainly energy based armament, forced on the design by the
decision to also make it a long distance patrol vessel, mainly because she has
in sufficient heat sinks to dissipate all the heat her weapons cause, but this
was hardly a unique case. (especially in the days before the invention of
double heat sinks, ed) She does, however, have four nac-10's for that little
bit extra bite, but their placement on the broadside proved flawed due to the
restricted arcs.
Compared with her contemporaries, especially the Lola's, her crew quarters
were spacios, indeed considered by many Lola crews to be luxurious, and the
hundred meter grav deck was a blessing, in particular during the long patrols
that most of the class did along the Hegemony's borders.
==Notable Vessels & Crews:==
Desron 66 (destroyer squadron 66)
More infamous than famous, this quartet of Typhoons showed painfully the flaws
of the class's design when they were ambushed by a Taurian Calderon class
battleship during the Reunification War, which saw all four vessels destroyed
to neglible damage to the Taurian vessel.
Due to Taurian efforts to hide information regarding their warships during the
war, the Star League was never able to ascertain exactly which Calderon was
responcible for the death of the ships, and most of their eight hundred crew
members, but the lesson was learned, destroyers in the future would try to be
faster, and or, better armed.
==Deployment==
Of the 600 constructed during the class's eighty year production span
(2380-2460), none exist today, the last one having been given the honour of
being scrapped alongside the last Monsoon class battleship in 2668, although
it had not seen service itself for nearly sixty years by that stage.
Extensively used during their long life spans, the survivors were all but worn
out by the end of the Age of War, but they still went for one last great
campaign, alongside the Monsoons, namely the Reunification War, due to the
fact that their intended replacement, the Baron class, had proved to be so
poor that it nearly was out lasted by the class it was supposed to replace.
(at least in Star League service, as the last Barons in house service lasted
till the 29th century, ed)

Made this ship in two days, fluff and all, if only just for fun. She does, at least, fit the era, I think..
