I always thought that the Warthog(ours in Real time) was a tank buster 30mm chain-gun ant0tank missiles and for a few laughs a cluster bomb or two and I relize it isnt a fast Jet I personally thought you would make it close to the real thing but I do like the design(mental note to self got to get areo design from Rick)

I also assumed the design was intended to be similar to the A-10, but knew it wasn't after seeing it, of course. But I can't complain about the use of the name, as I have a custom 'Mech called the Warthog too.

It's similar...just improved do to the use of "high" tech parts and material...plus I was playing around with the program...

As for ordering these...please the WiE on Arc Royal to place orders.

Why do people think the Warthog is such an ugly plane? I find it rather attractive, more so then the Raptor or JSF which people seem to love.

To me a Warthog is like a British Bulldog. It must have been one of the last in line, when God was dealing out faces, but for all its ugliness it has this unique charm which just makes you love the silly beast.

As to why folks like the Joint Strike Fighter or the Raptor?? People, like their planes to be sleek and fast. Almost like a dagger in a way. A quick thrust inwards, a twist and then out again.

The Warthog on the other hand, is more like a mace. Blunt and deadly, but it appears so sluggish and brutal that it makes folks turn away.

I don't care if people like the Raptor or JSF. I myself find them ugly as sin(well, not that bad) but i think the A-10 is simply purty.

I simply think the A-10 is as ugly as they get and still fly, but its brute power is what interests me.

As for the F-22 and JSF, they're high-tech, the future. Sure, its only for the immediate, but they're a glimpse at the next generation.

But my all time is the Tomcat. Heavy-ass plane, but fast and very powerful. Like a combination of the A-10 and the F-22, but with out the ugly gene.

I think the Warthog is butt-ugly, and I love it. To me, it's the perfect example that aircraft (or 'Mechs or vehicles) don't have to be attractive to be useful and do their job well. I always chuckle when people say they think such-and-such 'Mech is ugly, and they'd never buy it. What's beauty got to do with having an efficient killing machine? I guess that's why I really don't like a lot of the original humanoid designs as much as the newer, non-humanoid ones: they're too pretty!

The A-10, is sweet,

If you ever get a chance to read about their actions during Desert Storm, It's astonishing, Rugged landing strips that other aircraft couldn't handle, Shot up but fly right on home with few if any problems & let's face it it's just a awesome plane. It also gained a very high honor. It was nicked named by the enemy(Silent Death I belive ), when the enemy is giving it a name you know it is having a impact on their lives . Now only if we can convince the Air Froce to keep them or at least hand them over to the Army(I know legaly there is a big fight about that, but still)

Isn't the F-14 proof that even a brick can fly with a big enough engine?

No, I think the Space Shuttle claims that title best.

Our modelling club in Montgomery had several A-10 pilots in it, and one brought in a video they had made. It was hilarious, with the Warthog pilots making fun of fighter jocks, with a song they wrote and all. Don't remember many specifics these days, but one chorus sang:

"We don't use a speedometer, we use a calendar!"

The Shuttle was modeled on the F-4.

The M1 tank is known as `Whispering Death' by Warsaw Pack.

They also named the A-10 as the `Devil's Cross.'

Me? If I can't have my Great Big Honkin' YF (pictured left,) give me a `Fork-tailed Devil!'

IIRC the F-105 Thunderchief had the nickname of the Leadsled. And according to my father (a USAF vet) The old F-100 Super Sabre had a glide ratio of 1:10 for every foot forward it dropped 10 feet if it didn't have an operating engine.

I'd agree with 10:1, meaning it drops 1 foot for every 10 feet forward. There isn't a plane alive that drops 10 for 1 foot forward. In fact, I seriously doubt there's anything below 5:1 or so.

Well that's the story: 1 foot forward, 10 feet down.

So....if it didn't have an operating engine...how was it moving forward?

He mean that the engine quite in mid-flight, so the plane still had forward velocity.

The A-10 is soooo nasty, that even friendly tankers break out in a sweat when they hear those twin turbines. (Got a couple of tanker buds. There's a compartment in the M-1 for an M-16,which isn't issued to tank crews. Know what they use it for. The beer.)

The C5 Galaxy has an Awful Glide Ratio of something like 7:1. The pilots I knew who flew them called it 'the brick with wings'.

Some guys I met before the Gulf War said the A-10 would still fly if 40% of it's lift surfaces were removed.... Awesome.....

the A-10 is also the only plane designed with a titanium tub capable of stopping a Tank round and still fly away, good to know if you're the one flying it
every now and then, the history channel has some good shows on the various fighters, from WWI on up thru the Gulf War, could find a few interesting ideas there for some others

I have tale of one coming back with no main hydrolics, gear stuck in "up" position, one engine, one vertical tail and 65% wing surface. The saudi royal family themselves wanted to keep it as some kind of monument.

Dunno if it's true. but it sounded cool!

Two books that I have and a couple of the Discovery Wings programs talk about A10s landing after being in action over Iraq and the pilot climbs out to see the look surprise and wonderment on his ground crew and then he sees the holes and damage to aircraft. All he can say is I didn't notice anything odd, just a few bumps.

My Resereve unit has helped the local Air Guard unit in Michigan that has A10s and some of the stories they told us about their time in Desert Storm and what the A10s came back looking like makes one happy to know that for once something Uncle Sam bought actually lives up to the advanced billing.

Uh, you're not referring to, like, a 120mm tank round, are you? 30mm cannon I can see. But if an A-10 ran into an artillery shell (about the only way it could happen - a tank could never /target/ an A-10 with its big gun), if the tub is still left intact, there wouldn't be a plane around it any more.
