------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
The FedCom Civil War was over with, and the Admiralty has a huge job
ahead of it. The AFFS Navy has taken stagering losses. Three Avalon Missile
Cruisers, the Covenant Heavy Cruiser and three Fox Corvettes were all
casualities. While the Overlord A-3 will be able to assist the remaining
warships of the AFFS, the fleet will have to be rebuilt, but this time it will
be more balenced. While the keels of new Avalon and Fox class vessels are
being laid plans for other classes of ships were being finalized so they too
may begin construction. The Durendal Class Destroyer was modified to take into
account many of the lessons learned in the civil war and is just now been
finalized and cleared for immediate construction.

==Capabilities:==
The Durendal benefited from the Civil War in that it showed the
shortcomings of the most modern warships produced. Engineers had a chance to
enhance the Durendal to take advantage of these shortcomings and produce a
superior destroyer design for the AFFS Admiralty.
The Durendal's frame was further strengthened to allow the ship to hold
a respectable amount of armor. This allowed the her to stay in the thick of
battle much longer than Star League era warships and many modern designs. The
ship was also equipped with four Zephyr Model 2 engines that allowed her to
keep up with the Avalon when perforning fleet escort duties or fighting enemy
warships. To simplify supply and maintainence for the ship the primary
armament was centered around two different weapons; the Johnston Model M-3
Medium Naval PPC and Federated-25 Series, Model 1c Naval Autocannon. Eighteen
of the Naval PPC's and 16 of the Naval Autocannons form the bulk of the ships
offensive firepower, giving the ship a mighty bite. The addition of eight
Federated Multi-M AR10 Launchers also makes the ship feared by both enemy
warships and aerofighters.
The problem of dealing with massed Aerospace Fighters attacks was also
addressed. In an effort to correct this problem the Durendal was given a large
number of weapons to deal with fast moving Aerospace Fighters. A incrediable
forty-three BlazeFire Sweetshot ER Large Lasers and twenty-two FarFire Long
Range Missile 15 launchers with Artemis IV FCS were installed. This heavy
anti-fighter weapons load would surely make any fighter pilot think twice
before trying to close with a Durendal. For defense against incoming enemy
capital and standard missiles twenty-two MainFire Point Defense AMS's and
twenty-two Sutel Precision Line Small Pulse Lasers were installed.

==Variants:==
After the completion of the Block I Durendals, and their successful
baptism in fire repulsing the assaults on Chesterton, Lee and Valexa, the
Naval Admiralty and Army Marshals asked for a change to the Block II's. To
further enhance the designs primary mission of supporting Regular Army troops,
the Durendal was modified to allow the design to carry twice the original
compliment of Dropships and Aerospace Fighters, while sacrificing only a small
portion of its primary firepower (two Medium Naval PPC's and two Naval
Autocannon 25's), but this was partially offset by the addition of more
smaller weapons to deal with enemy aerofighters in the ships rear firing arcs.

==Notable Vessels & Crews:==
Named Vessels:
Roland & Durendal
Ogier & Curtana
Oliver & Hauteclere
Renaud & Froberge
Charlemagne & Joyeuse
Arthur & Excalibur
Lancelot & Arondight
Nennius & Crocea Mors
Ferdinand & Lobera

(Ships are named after famous kings or knights and their sword & deployed in
pairs.)

==Deployment==
Plans are for eighteen Durendels to be constructed with two assigned to
each Avalon Cruiser and the remaining six to be assigned free roving patrol
duties along the Federated Suns borders..

I would have gone with NAC/30s, but otherwise its a good looking ship. Have you battle tested it yet?

Once a long time ago I posted this design. Just recently I found this guy over on LotB (Nick - Rad) that does commission artwork! Well I gave it a try and this is what he came up with in the final design. I love it!!!! AND it only cost me $30.
