I had to edit out the part about Mohammed Bey watching a one of those military hygene films dating from the SLDF and redubbed by the FS:

Woman: Thanks for the business, soldier.
Soldier: After months of travelling, it was money well spent!

*The Next Morning*

Soldier: Goodness, what is this sore on my...lip?
Doctor: *dramatically* You have a social disease!

Narrator: Yes Soldier! You may be campaigning away from home for the first time but beware of women from the Periphery Capellan Confederation! They are filthy, wretched creatures who will bring ruin to your lives if you even talk to them. Remember, fraternization is a violation of SLDF Federated Suns regulations!

Mohammed, I would love to see what you would do if you had a less resticted outlet for your work.

Hmmm, could you be referring to an alternate Battletech site that might possibly allow mature subject matter? I will have to consider it...
8)

BTW, if you really want to get the right mood of the Sick Bay scene in the last episode, imagine the part of Dr. Reese being played by John Cleese of Monty Python, especially when he reads off the various terms used for social diseases.

Some notes: In Megamek, I changed the settings to allow Level 3, invalid designs and a few of the MaxTech rules.
I wanted the Utility mechs to have steel armor but since that wasn't available, settled for having slabs of regular armor welded onto the mechs. To reflect the industrial quad I disabled the ejection seats.

For those who were wondering, the last battle in "There I Was..." was fought out using MegaMek and was particularly nasty (at least for the Raiders...):

You gotta love Level 1 mechs...
So much for salvage. Actually, there were six other mechs in the attack that surrendered.

I'm the Master of Ceremonies for the Honolulu Scottish festival and Highland Games this coming weekend (Kapiolani Park Bandstand, 9-5 April 1-2, be there!) so I'm not sure I can have the next instalment done in time -I'll try to finish it but right now I'm putting a polish on my dirk and backsword...

Ha. Another great installment. :D

Interesting that Mohammed get some early knowledge of the clans. That may explain his successes in the invasion. :)

I'm also sending a P.M. for later publishing.

The IS is a place where a person with enough money could get just about anything -I came up with the baby seal farm decades ago and finally found a place to use it. Of course, I pondered the right way to describe how it would be done:

Tanaka waits for Mohammed Bey to place the white stole over her smooth shoulders, "Oh, it's lovely!"
"I'm glad you like it," replied the teen. "It took six seals -I clubbed the last three myself."
Leila stands in front of the full-length mirror and turns. She looks at her reflection and strikes a variety of poses. "You're so thoughful!"

Animals do serve a purpose -I'm a person who considers the wildlife channel and the food channel one and the same and cannot go to a zoo or aquarium without thinking of the best ways to prepare and serve those delicious animals wasted on display. 8)

Thank you for your interest in the story,

While sometimes you can't go home, some things and places don't change a lot over the years. Daimyo Burger may just be a fast-food common in the Combine, but for those who have been away from home for a long time, there's nothing like eating at a familiar place, especially one that has not changed much since one's childhood.

When I was stationed in Europe, one good place to find Americans was the MacDonald's in Wuerzburg. In Waikiki, the Sizzler Steak House would have American tourists lined up out the door. There's nothing like dining on a familiar meal in familiar surroundings.

And yes, there shall be more...

I agree - i do like your stories - i could go with a little less barbarism that ive seen but I understand its a reflection of the cultures the societies are buildt off of from the past.

What you need to do with this is post it as a podcast , I love ths story it very very good please keep up the good work and I am looking ffoward to more. :toast:
Now there's an idea -produce the story in audiobook form or in the form of a radio dramatization -I wish I had the time, because I do have studio access... A dramatization would be preferred, although I could never use my bass voice in the early stories except as narrator. :-?

I'll be ending the "There I Was..." series and placing "Forging the Sword" on hold while I begin "Running with the Pride" in September. I also plan to drop a related short story or two...

Thank you for your interest in my work,

As am I -I had a meeting with the GM last night and he still has to get some info to me. We were supposed to play out a BattleTroops scenario last night but another player had to get his unit caught up in the game timeline -he's a year behind.

I'm just about done with another "Forging the Sword" installment and I've got three other stories that are moving along after doing some research. I'll have something posted by this coming weekend.

For those of you who may be interested in the last couple of entries to Forging the Sword, much of the maneuvers were played out using my Gaming Group’s project BattleTroops 3000 (BT3K) rules. Here are some images:
Image
All quiet over the town…
Image
The Command Center.
Image
Warrior VTOL supporting advancing soldiers.
Image
Battle for the town, Jump Infantry on rooftops, enemy equipment destroyed…
Image
Leaders and support units.
Image
Remnants of Night Action –wreckage of failed attack.
Image
Next attack at dawn –the enemy prepares to advance.
Image
Looking North over the town –enemy vehicles at the North edge.

And now, for something different –Planet X
What better way to experiment with rules than to toss in a puzzling situation that includes bizarre, unpredictable life forms –make it the CBT version of a B-grade sci-fi holovid and you have the following:
Image
Secret Lyran research facility, looking west.
Image
View over the farmhouse, looking east.
Image
The Stinger supported by infantry scans the area.
Image
“What are those things?” Creatures emerge from the ground…
Image
The armor support encounters some of the alien bioforms.
Image
More alien life forms appear!
Image
It hits the fan at the abandoned farm…
Image
Screams and gunfire, roars and screeches…
Image
More weird life forms!

The scenario was fun as the creatures attacked and fought savagely and gave the infantry a good run for their money. There's nothing like waves of mindless killing machines to test your resolve and ability to make the most of your firepower.

Once again my schedule has changed and the campaign moves forward. As you may surmise, the day-to-day administration of the Eighth Arkab Training Cadre has been passed from the mechwarriors unto the caring hands of trained office personnel and a few DCMS officers logging in some administrative time.

Mohammed Bey's family continues to grow and he is already preparing his eldest son for the academy.
The Battle of Tukayyid occurred months before but like many in the Draconis Combine as well as the rest of the Inner Sphere, he is still yet unaware of that significant event. It's business as usual, except for the fact that ComStar has altered its centuries-old policy concerning information and technology. This sort of thing is too much to simply ignore.

I have used my brief hiatus time to engage in valuable research and reorganizing my extensive notes, as well as writing in additional characters, each with their own background stories and dossiers. It is my goal to offer a better product to those who have been loyal readers.

Thank you for your generous praise, constructive criticism and thoughtful corrections. -MB

The water around him glowed with silvery rays from the bright sun and even the sand on the sea’s floor seemed to hold him in a warm, comforting embrace. Reposed on the soft sand, he hugged his chest and closed his eyes.
...
The sun felt warm on his honey-brown skin but stung when Thaqid opened his eyes. He felt as though he awoke from a long sleep and shook the fuzzy cobwebs from his brain. The boy lay on the sand just beyond the point where the languid water lapped against the shore and he noticed dozens of tourists under colorful umbrellas, walking along the white, powdery sand and playing in the water.
WHAT happened here?
I wish I knew. The incident happened to me at Waikiki beach a very long time ago and I wrote it as I remember it. I woke up on the beach where tourists sat around lazing in the sun with no indication of anything amiss. I never told my parents or anyone else about it but I remember it as if it were yesterday.

That's freakin' scary! And I have similar experience: I was at weekend convention, I fell asleep, I woke up when someone shaked my shoulder, I was standing, in just my underwears, otherside of large building and upper floor. My clothing and rest were found near where I fell asleep...

that is scary?
a friend who is a travelling carpenter told me that once he went around the bars of Flensburg(german east coast). when he awoke again he was on a bench at the coast at the island of Sylt(german west coast, you only reach it by train). his complete luggage was with him. he never found out how he got there.

Something I realized: did you had any scratches from climbing the wave braker? If not, then you likely dreamed the whole thing ;)

Was he drunk? I wasn't, and I can guess Grey wasn't either.

I've read that when someone is drunk enough, (s)he may have had sex and not remember it. Or think that (s)he had sex but didn't. That could be all fiction though...

And then back to story. If Mohammed Bey don't get personnel he wants from DCMS, he could hire small merc unit from Clan front to do cadre duty. He seems wealthy enough to finance that from his own pocket. But if he wants spare there, he can take just few dispossessed, as he seem to have enough 'Mechs by himself, and more are on the way.

Note: there are MechWarriors and unit commanders who invest sizeable amounts of their own money, and money of their families, houses, clans, and other relatives, in order to keep themselves, and their units, on the field. Wealthy MechWarriors buy new 'Mechs straight from factory and I know one unit commander who bought lance of Schreks, and calls them mobile spare parts for his Awesome.

Maybe someone gave him lift, then booted out? That train part is tricky though...

maybe, what puzzled him most is that nobody took advantage and his luggage/money/etc.
maybe one of the guys he went with was in the mood for a prank.
that would be a completely new topic: if i have someone and i know that he will wake up the next morning, not remembering a thing, where would i put him? the eiffel tower? red square? tien-an-men?

My roommate in Germany, who was an ex-NYC taxi driver would get drunk every night and never remembered how he drove home from the bars.

For my readers, some background information for my fanfic:
As many of you may have already guessed, I used to teach ballroom dancing and my favorite has always been the Tango. In studying Tango you are also exposed to music and artists of an earlier age.

"Parlez-Moi D'Amour"
Singer: Lucienne Boyer
Written by Jean Lenoir
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIAQWr34De0

Lyrics in English:

Chorus:
Speak to me of love
Tell me those tender things again
Your beautiful speech
My heart is not tired of hearing it
Provided that you will always
Repeat these supreme words
I love you

You know well that underneath it all
I don't believe any of it
But meanwhile I want to still hear those words
That I adore
Your voice with its caressing sounds
That murmurs in trembling
Rocks me with its beautiful story
And in spite of myself I want to believe it

Chorus

It is so sweet, my dear treasure, to be a little crazy
Life is sometimes too bitter
If we don't believe in little fancies
Sorrow is quickly quieted
And consoled from a kiss
From the heart
Wounds are healed by reassuring words

Chorus

Notes: I can't remember the first time I heard Lucienne Boyer but it was at my grandparents' house many years ago. To me, her singing brings to mind Paris between World Wars and the brief, carefree mood of the time. This particular song has been popping up in shows like The Sopranos and House and when I first heard it on television I was "I know that song!" Anyway, it is too pretty a song to keep to myself.
Carlos Gardel also recorded a version of this song. On the Album "Adieu False Heart" Linda Ronstadt accompanies Ann Savoy.
-------------------------------------------------------

"Por Una Cabeza"
Singer: Carlos Gardel
Written by Carlos Gardel and Alfredo Le Pera
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dz2SIVoqKG4

Lyrics in English:

Losing by a head of a noble horse
who slackens just down the stretch
and when it comes back it seems to say:
don't forget brother,
You know, you shouldn't bet.

Losing by a head, instant violent love
of that flirtatious and cheerful woman
who, swearing with a smile
a love she's lying about,
burns in a blaze all my love.

Chorus:
Losing by a head
there was all that madness;
her mouth in a kiss
wipes out the sadness,
it soothes the bitterness.

Losing by a head
if she forgets me,
no matter to lose
my life a thousand times;
what to live for?

Many deceptions, loosing by a head...
I swore a thousand times not to insist again
but if a look sways me on passing by
her lips of fire, I want to kiss once more.

Enough of race tracks, no more gambling,
a photo-finish I'm not watching again,
but if a pony looks like a sure thing on Sunday,
I'll bet everything again, what can I do?

Chorus

Notes: Carlos Gardel is still a legendary figure in the Tango world. In the 1930s he wrote and sang some of the most popular songs in Argentina and hence the world. Gardel died in a plane crash in 1935.
"Por Una Cabeza" probably most known to American audiences through the movies "The Scent of a Woman" and "True Lies".

I did same!
Good stuff!
I am glad you like it. This happened to my mother in 1963 on her first visit to Las Vegas. My father was on tour with Martin Denny playing the bass (Harvey Ragsdale- It's kind of neat to see a parent's name in Wikipedia!).

My father didn't gamble- He built model sailing ships in his hotel room which he then sold to the various bars in Las Vegas for over a hundred dollars each- we're talking a plastic kit for under $5 in 1963!
The studio (Liberty Records) allowed the band to tour with their families in tow, renting fancy convertables and cruising the freeways of America...
When in Vegas, the band would play gigs at multiple hotels, usually opening for Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, etc. The wives would be given a paper cup full of nickels to go play the slot machines. My mother won over $200- that's the story... I try to make my characters human and have human events happen to them.

Note 1: When my parents were off working or playing my brothers and I (at 3-4 years of age) would be under the care of babysitters who were always young chorus line dancers:
[Stewie]Oh, hello there, Pamela. Go ahead and unbutton that top so I could see what's on tap.[/Stewie]

Yes, I still remember. :P

Note 2: Liberty Records was started by chairman Simon Waronker in 1955 with Alvin Bennett as president and Theodore Keep as chief engineer. Some of you people might recognize the names- Alvin, Simon and Theodore:
Image

Liberty was close to bankruptcy when Ross Bagdasarian, Sr. convinced them that they might as well press singles of The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late) with the leftover vinyl pucks (discs of plastic pressed into records) and labels in their warehouse. In just a few months leading up to Christmas of 1958, the record shot to the top of the charts. It became the only Christmas record to reach #1 on the pop chart, selling 4.5 million copies. Liberty was back in business. Because my dad was on their payroll we had all their records.

Note 3: My dad recorded over 40 albums for various groups as a studio musician so he rarely got mentioned in the liner notes.

Now you know.

Why would they want to waste their talents on that site, there are better sites out there for them to get their work seen.

Ok Karigan, you are entitled to your opinion, but the Coprs is where many of the new writers for CBT are coming from. Several have been picked up from the ranks of the Battle Corps Legion. The ongoing Official fanfic. Plus there is no better place to be noticed by TPTB than on their very doorstep. :suave:

I feel my <$10 a month is worth my being a member of an official CBT Unit. not a named part... yet. BUT that is only a matter of time & level of insanity IYAM :rotate: :spiny: :rotate: :jumpy:

Hey Khan, yet your PM. I don't want to drive this off of topic, enough to say I think they are better off here putting out their fan fiction then on the BattleCorps site.
