Rick,

First of all, thank you. I really enjoy the programs you have created, great work. And the forums are fantastic. My question is this: will you have a seperate section for Aerospace designs as opposed to 'Mech designs in the future on these boards? As an AT2 fan, 120+ pages is a little much to dig through to find all those aerospace designs. If not, its cool. After all, its YOUR site. Just a suggestion, sir.

it has already been suggested to separate the users designs into different sub-forums, but rick didn´t like the idea. i still support it.

While I'm not necessarily opposed to separating such designs, it seems funny to have a separate forum for AT2, when the "regular" forum is for everything else. And don't forget, there is a place on the HM web site for uploading and downloading your own designs, with a separate User-Submitted Aerospace Designs page.

One thing I requested on the user designs forum quite some time ago, is to have a clear title indicating what kind of design it is. That hasn't been enforced, though, and I see that very few are so marked.

I guess something I might consider is to add new forums for each unit type ('Mech, vehicle, AT - maybe others, I hate to have /too/ many), if I could make the existing design forums so no new posts could be made, maybe just responses, forcing new ones into the separate areas. If there was a lot of support for that, I'd consider it.

I just hate to wade through too many separate forums to see what's going on.

Well I you want after you create the separtae forums I could help you move threads I have a bit of experience now as a forum admin (Admittedly mostly on vBulliten based forums) but I'm sure that I could help move threads if you want to go that route.

I'd prefer not to have anyone spending time moving all those threads (7,334 of them!). I think it would be better to just lock the existing forum from having any new threads added (people could still respond), and restrict new threads to the new forums.

I would love to have forums for each type of unit. That I think would be cool.

Then, if somebody WANTS to move threads, they could. If nobody does, they stay. If somebody wants to move some, some can move. :)

I say no to the whole idea. Too much hassle, too many people would complain, and there probably wouldn't be that much enforcement.

Despite some objections, I've gone ahead and added new, separate forums for 'Mechs, Vehicles, AeroSpace and BA/ProtoMechs. I've locked the old design forums so new topics cannot be made, but everyone can still view the designs and respond to existing threads.

Please use the appropriate forums from now on for all posts. I don't intend to spend time making changes by moving things to the appropriate forum, unless I'm in a good mood at least, so please, use the right forums. So don't expect people to find your neat vehicle, if you posted it in the 'Mechs forum.

If there is another category of designs that really need a new forum, please request it here, rather than mis-post them. Or if we get a number of requests for different types of designs, I might just make a miscellaneous forum.

Can we go back to one design board and simply fix the search engine on here instead of having 3 or more boards for designs?

I think the bigger single board generated more discussion on the different threads since there was no jumping around, this more got covered. My input anyways...

What's wrong with the search engine? Trouble is, no one marks their posts they way I requested, as to what they were.

I can't say. I went with what was recommended, and now some don't want it. Let it sort out a while. Then, if it's that bad, I can move the new ones back. But they will stay that way forever, then.

Well, if I was smart, and did like most of the forums, I'd archive anything over six months or so old, so they're no longer available.

Either out in the field disocvering that some people will do something as you tell them to with out using any thing remotely related to common sense or I was in Iraq...or both.

Well, perhaps my common sense /was/ lacking, but I'm not sure I agree with you. Personally, having them separate makes a lot of sense to me. While browsers may respond less, those looking for designs will have a much easier time locating them.

Sure, but with the old way, you had everything in one location, no need to jump from section to section. You read one entry, respond or not, then oh look a new mech or fighter, cool, read and comment, rinse and repeat as needed. Now you have to jump from section to section. I don't see how that helps other then separating things, which might look cool but makes things no different here then the other BT sites that have forums.

But hey if you want the new way then we have to go with it since changing it back doesn't seem likely...I guess I just liked the whole one spot to post, read and have a group discussion on the different units without having to jump from section to section to section to section to see what all is new...

Well, for me, i like it, keeps like types together ('Mechs Aero, BA), its similar to whats over at [ur=http://www.classicbattletech.com/forums/l]CBT[/url] Though thats just me (maybe)..Also to me it seems more organized......
