the phalanx RAC/2 is an improved RAC/2(UK) that has undergone decades of testing and improvement.
finally the clan-engineers managed to stop the weapon from jamming, instead the stuck ammo is ejected the next rotation, effectively reducing the salvo when the weapon jams, as well as the next salvo by one shot.
furthermore a targeting computer and individual radar-sensors have been added to the RAC. this improvements enable the P-RAC/2 to engage enemy fighters and incomeing capital missiles with a high efficiency.
the targeting computer grants the P-RAC/2 a bonus of -2 against enemy fighters
MASS: 10 tons
cost: 480000/5000(using the same ammo that any AC/2 would use)
max range: extreme
BV: 227/28
heat: 6
ammo: 45/ton
eff. weight: 10+6+1=17

Its an interesting idea--I like the concept, but I would like it even better if it could engage capital missiles. :D

As it is, it's hell-on-wheels against aerospace fighters, but not too out of line for its mass and price. I'd say give it a try.

From what I read it CAN engage fighters and Cap Missles, but without the bigger bonus on the latter. I like it, and it doesn't seem too unbalancing.

with a few of these you could sand patterns into the armor of enemy ships...

the heavy TC´s might also be able to get a bonus on slower targets like mechs or enemy warships. called shots against specific parts of a warship become thinkable.

this weapon could be buildt into a mech or vee.

1-i´d say there is no reason why it could not engage cap-missiles that are not heading its way.

2-a pair/group of phalanx that is fixed together in a bay/a mecharm/ a vee-turret can use the same TC, but are unable to fire at different targets.( the TC weighs 3 tons)

3-the phalanx can also engage anything a AMS can engage, with the same effect, just at higher range. Point 1. does apply.

i think the skysweeper might also be a good thing to fend of boarding-attempts, it could sand the attacked warship clean, without really damaging it(unless u concentrate the fire too much)
